What Is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a single indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services across India, replacing older taxes like VAT, service tax, and excise duty since it was introduced on 1 July 2017. It is charged at every stage of the supply chain but is ultimately paid by the end consumer, with businesses claiming input tax credit along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Add GST and Remove GST?
Add GST calculates the final price when you start with a price that excludes tax. Remove GST works backward - you enter the final, tax-inclusive amount and it tells you the original price and how much tax was included.
When do I use CGST + SGST instead of IGST?
Use CGST + SGST when the buyer and seller are located in the same state - the tax is split equally between the central and state governments. Use IGST when the sale crosses state lines; the full GST amount is charged as a single integrated tax.
Is GST calculated on MRP or before tax?
MRP (Maximum Retail Price) is generally inclusive of GST. If you have the MRP and want to know the base price and tax amount, use Remove GST mode.
What GST rate should I select for my product?
GST rates depend on the HSN/SAC classification of your goods or service. Check your product's HSN code on the official GST portal (gst.gov.in) to confirm the exact applicable rate, since it can change with government notifications.
Can I use this for GST-inclusive invoice calculations?
Yes. Enter your total invoice amount, select Remove GST, choose the correct rate, and it will show the base amount along with the CGST/SGST or IGST that was charged.
Is this GST calculator accurate for filing returns?
This tool is meant for quick estimates and everyday calculations. For official GST return filing, always cross-check figures with your accounting software or a qualified tax professional, since actual filings may involve input tax credit adjustments this simple calculator does not account for.
Is this calculator free to use?
Yes, completely free, with no login and no data stored, and works on both mobile and desktop.
